6 and to Project Management in SDD Stage 6. Prof. Ray Offen
will cover software development approaches, CASE tools, systems
documentation and processes with a range of activities and
role-plays devised for the classroom. The resources and activities
can relate to specific areas of the syllabus teachers wish
to focus on.

Overview of Computing Languages

This two day workshop relates to the SDD Stage 6 Option
Evolution of Programming Languages. It will cover the historical
development of the main language paradigms and their features,
strengths and weaknesses. Practical activities will focus
on developing exercises and materials suitable for classroom
use.
This year’s workshop is NEW and IMPROVED with:

- coverage of the imperative paradigm in the

Visual Basic

The
approach of this workshop is to gradually introduce general
programming concepts using Visual Basic. In the process
we learn how to program in Visual Basic. Many of the concepts
are applicable to any programming language, some to VB
specifically. All examples and practical exercises have
been done in Visual Basic.

Relational Databases

We explore the modelling and implementation of relational
databases through the use of modelling techniques which allow
us to implement tables and see from a logical point of view
how they are 'related'. Implementation and querying of tables
will take place by way of SQL (Structured Query Language).
Some advanced concepts including database concurrency issues
and PL/SQL (Programming Language/Structured Query Language)
will also be examined.
