Project Management

This workshop relates to both IPT Project Work 9.1 Stage 6 and to Project Management in SDD Stage 6. Prof. Ray Offen will cover software development approaches, CASE tools, systems documentation and processes with a range of activities and role-plays devised for the classroom. The resources and activities can relate to specific areas of the syllabus teachers wish to focus on.

This workshop is designed to help teachers come to terms with Project Management as a discrete area. The topic is useful for any teacher managing project work with school groups.

This workshop covers basic HTML, graphics and basic web tools. This course is for the beginner web page designer.

This workshop is for teachers who have some working knowledge of HTML and writing and uploading web pages. You will learn client server programming using TCL.

Overview of Computing Languages

This two day workshop relates to the SDD Stage 6 Option Evolution of Programming Languages. It will cover the historical development of the main language paradigms and their features, strengths and weaknesses. Practical activities will focus on developing exercises and materials suitable for classroom use.

This year’s workshop is NEW and IMPROVED with:
  • more discussion of what programming paradigms are
  • coverage of the imperative paradigm in the same way as the other three
  • an example problem solved in each of the paradigms
  • more worked examples!

Intergrating Technology into the Classroom

This workshop is designed for any teacher who has to

  • Contend with teaching in a computer lab for the first time,
  • Integrate technology ideas into class projects,
  • Learn more about computer technology and various applications,
  • Develop new project ideas with basic computing resources and skills,
  • Administer assessment tasks on a network.

It covers a wide range of different kinds of class activities using basic HTML, MS applications and periferals, as well as new ideas for projects and administration.

OOps

This workshop will cover Object-Oriented Programming and Java. There will two days of activities suitable for HSD SDD and a resource manual provided.

Visual Basic

The approach of this workshop is to gradually introduce general programming concepts using Visual Basic. In the process we learn how to program in Visual Basic. Many of the concepts are applicable to any programming language, some to VB specifically. All examples and practical exercises have been done in Visual Basic.

Relational Databases

We explore the modelling and implementation of relational databases through the use of modelling techniques which allow us to implement tables and see from a logical point of view how they are 'related'. Implementation and querying of tables will take place by way of SQL (Structured Query Language). Some advanced concepts including database concurrency issues and PL/SQL (Programming Language/Structured Query Language) will also be examined.
